We caught a glimpse of one of our containers in a video about research into superconductivity. See the whole video below.
Superconductors are especially valuable, they have no resistance to electrical transmission and they expel their magnetic properties. MRIs, the CERN supercollider and maglev vehicles couldn’t work without superconducting magnets. Superconductors in use today must be cooled with liquid helium to absolute zero, -459.67°F or -273.15°C. In the 1960‘s, scientists discovered elements that became superconductors at warmer temperatures, -225°F, above the boiling point of liquid nitrogen(-320.4°F or -195.8°C).
The search is on for a material that has superconducting properties at room temperature. Physicists can’t predict which material will work, or why. “These new superconductors have many strange properties that are not understood even today.” says Richard Greene, physics professor at the University of Maryland.
Don’t miss our liquid nitrogen container, you can see scientists dispensing liquid nitrogen at the 1 minute mark, and again just after the 2 minutes mark.
